RTTDC Pilot Courses Report Early Success |

The first two official pilot sessions of the Resource-Variable Trauma Team Development Course (RTTDC®) 5th Edition have successfully concluded. Held April 22 and 24, Legacy Trauma Services—recently expanded to support trauma education in Region 10—partnered with teams at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport, Oregon, and Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco, Washington, to deliver the course. Participants included emergency physicians, physician associates, nurses, technicians, and prehospital paramedics. The RTTDC 5th Edition will officially launch later this month.

Building on principles from advanced trauma training programs, RTTDC establishes a shared foundation of knowledge for all professionals involved in trauma care. The course brings multidisciplinary teams together to learn collaboratively, practice critical skills, and engage in discussion with experienced trauma clinicians.

ATLS 11 LMS Requirements Table Is Now Available |

A new Advanced Trauma Life Support® (ATLS®) 11th Edition Learning Management System (LMS) requirements table is now available as a quick reference for all course formats. This resource outlines required and optional components for Traditional, Hybrid, and Refresher courses, including manuals, videos, and online modules, helping learners understand pre-course expectations and prepare effectively in advance.

Disaster Education Is Strengthening Readiness |
A comprehensive suite of disaster education programs from the ACS spans the continuum of care—from ATLS, which focuses on the early management of mass casualty incidents, to Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness (DMEP/eDMEP) for hospital leadership and system preparedness, and Advanced Disaster Medical Response (ADMR) for multidisciplinary response teams. Together, these programs provide flexible, role-specific training to strengthen disaster readiness across the healthcare system. Earn More CME with ATLS 11 Claiming Process |
With the launch of ATLS 11, learners can now earn additional Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits based on the content they complete. In addition to required course materials, optional modules and videos may also qualify for CME. Learners should only claim credit for education they have successfully completed. CME credits must be claimed within 30 days of course completion. To claim credits, log in to the LMS (learning.facs.org) after completing the course and follow the prompts. Course coordinators should review and share the ATLS 11 Credit Claiming Guide with learners prior to the start of the course. |

Assign Sites After Completing Coordinator Training |
Once new coordinators complete training, they should contact the Trauma Education team to request site assignments. The team will review the coordinator’s profile to ensure all required resources and permissions are in place. Coordinators are encouraged to complete this step promptly and copy other site coordinators on their request to ensure full access to the tools needed to support their role. |

New Informational Document Is Available for Site Coordinators |
The ATLS 11 “Site Coordinator Precourse Information and Instructions” document is now available in the Documents tab for all ATLS 11 courses in the CMS. This downloadable resource is especially important for courses offering CME credit, as it includes the course-specific accreditation box and other details required for Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education compliance. Site coordinators are encouraged to review this document before any course offering CME. Contact traumaeducation@facs.org with any questions. |

Share Your Expertise |
Course directors and instructors are invited to provide subject matter expertise for a needs assessment exploring the development of a basic trauma course—BRITE (Basic Response in Trauma and Emergencies)—designed for non-medical personnel. Led by Eric Lucas, DO, MSN, a PGY-IV general surgery resident at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Maryland, this initiative aims to evaluate whether expanding access to foundational trauma knowledge could benefit communities. The brief survey (approximately 5 minutes) draws on content from ATLS 11 and Trauma Evaluation and Management (TEAM)™ course (4th edition) and seeks input on key topics for inclusion.
